In Memoriam: Bob May

Bob May, the actor who wore the robot suit in the 1960s TV show Lost in Space passed away. His daughter, Deborah May announced that he died Sunday, January 18, 2009 of heart failure. He was 69 years-old.

May was an actor and stuntman, starring in television shows, movies, and on stage. He debut as the Robinson family’s robot sidekick in 1965 in the space age version of The Swiss Family Robinson. The Robot developed quite a following, and his line, “Danger, Will Robinson” said to one of the children, has become a national catch phrase.

After Lost in Space, May appeared in TV shows The Time Tunnel, McHale’s Navy, and The Red Skelton show, as well as films with Jerry Lewis.

He is survived by his wife Judith, daughter Deborah, son Martin, and four grandchildren.
